As we age there is a reduction in hormones which are important for maintaining normal function. The endocrine system of our bodies can be thought of as a symphony orchestra with many instruments, all working together. When some of the instruments are missing, the beautiful music cannot be produced. When disease or trauma destroy the production of human growth hormone there is rapid loss of muscle strength, increased abdominal fat, loss of bone, heart and other vascular problems, decreased metabolism, decreased insulin sensitivity and skin wrinkling. These are the same things that happen in normal aging, though in a more gradual way. As men age, andropause begins - a decrease in testosterone production, and often an increase in estrogen, which is detrimental to men. Replacement of testosterone to normal levels in men has been shown to increase energy, muscle mass, libido, help prevent osteoporosis and improve mood. In women menopause can cause such severe symptoms, both physical as well as mental, that women often feel their productive lives are over. Both men and women often suffer from depression as a result of declining hormone levels. After the initial evaluation and blood tests to ascertain the hormonal levels and other risk factors, we formulate a customized plan for each patient consisting of natural hormone replacement, dietary modification, nutritional supplementation, and exercise guidance. The cost of the comprehensive evaluation is $1,100. The cost of the monthly programs are variable, depending on the needs of the patient.
